Why I Shoot Pinups | Suzie Q Pinups

April 18th, 2012

I have always loved vintage and antique things.  It reminds me of a simpler time when things weren’t so rushed and everything wasn’t corrupted yet.  Women were put together before they left the house and chivalry wasn’t dead.  Americans had family values and children weren’t latch key kids then.

Vintage, Retro, Antique, Yesteryear all remind me of my dad.  My dad tells me stories about how things used to be and how his life was growing up on the family dairy in McKinney, Texas.  He taught me about taking a step back and enjoying life.  Enjoy the simple things and the simple times while we have them.

My husband is the biggest Andy Griffith Show fan ever and knows every story line, every scene, every character perfectly. We all need a little Mayberry in our lives.  Another example of simpler times.

What started as a client contacted me to shoot her portraits for her 31st birthday pinup style became a passion.  I fell in love with the idea of bringing back those times.

My style of pinup is more editorial than calendar girl because I like to tell a story.  I like to recreate scenes from movies and TV shows like The Notebook, Mad Men,  Cry Baby, Grease,  I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith,  Pearl Harbor and Walk the Line.  The list could go on and on but I think you get the idea.  My love is to create vintage styled family portraits  and engagement shoots.  There is nothing better to see you idea or collaboration come to life.

Pinup started as a way for moms to get that piece of themselves back that they put on the back burner when their children were born.  Dishes, diapers, car pool, dinner, laundry becomes life and you tend to forget about yourself and who you used to be.  A pinup shoot not only boosts self esteem, it gives you your sexy back.  Your husband starts to see you as not just his kids mom or his old lady but his beautiful sexy wife that he fell in love with all those years ago.  It makes him realize that he is one lucky man to have married you.  The spark is rekindled and you now have a sense of who you are again.

Jody’s Pin-up Debut | Dallas Pinup Photographer

February 21st, 2012

I had the absolute pleasure have Jody be a pinup model for me.  Jody is drop dead gorgeous and looked like she stepped right out of Mad Men. Joan Hollaway better watch out.  Jody can sure steal Don Draper away in a flutter of an eyelash and she would if she weren’t madly in love with her husband!

I had a great time shooting Jody.  She was up for anything and girl did I mention that she did her own makeup even, skillz!  Her sister Amy was there to help “stylize” Jody and we had such a blast.  I highly reccomend to have your sister or friend there to get your back and make sure you are tucked and elongated and making sure you “smeyes.”  jody and Amy are faithful watchers of America’s Next Top Model. Tyra would be so proud.

Amy was an awesome assistant and she had so much fun she can’t wait to shoot hers next!

What is more FAB-u-lous is that she went from Mad Men 60s to a drop dead ringer for Marilyn Monroe in a switch of an outfit and a fresh coat of red lipstick.  This is just a taste of what we captured.  The rest will be up soon at www.suzieqpinups.com

Connie Cakes|Suzie Q Pinups| Royse City Pinup Photographer

January 13th, 2012

Yay another pinup! Connie was fabulous to work with.  She is a Royse City school teacher by day and amazingly talented successful baker by weekend.  Her biz is called Constantly Cakes or better known as The Cake Lady around these parts and her work is AWESOME!

We incorporated a few of Connie’s tools of the trade into her shoot and her father in law who builds rat rods, was generous enough to bring one out for us to play with.  Connie’s sister slipped into character as well as her family for a few shots.  We had such a great time and WOW, connie was the epitome of a vintage pinup.  Check out a few of her pics below but for more visit me at Suzie Q Pinups

Tara Boyd aka Betty Boyd|Suzie Q PInups|Plano Pinup Photographer

January 10th, 2012

Ok, first I have to just say I love love LOVE shooting pinups.  Pinup is a new addition to Suzie Bell Photography and I plan on pushing it as far as it will go in 2012.  Pinup is a lost art form.  It is beautiful and tasteful and meant to leave a little to the imagination.

Tara was so amazing and went with whatever crazy pose or trick I asked her to do with no questions asked!  We moved furniture, stood on tables, sat on counters, you name it!

Not only is Tara stunning, she did her homework and that certainly helps your shoot.  It helps to study the pose, the expression, the clothing, the props, etc.

Personality is what makes a pinup portrait really pop.  Professional hair and makeup and “pinup shoes” are the second part to making a fantastic portrait but personality is key.

Tara had her own ideas and had thought out what she wanted in her portraits.  She chose many different outfits, shoes and accessories. Tara’s husband is a U.S. Marine and a few of his pieces played into her shoot as well and helped us capture that iconic pinup look.

You don’t have to be a size 0 to be beautiful and create amazing results.  You have to be confident.  I promise you by the time your shoot is over, you’ll be walking on air and want to do it again and you should!  If your a little nervous, its ok.  Have a friend there to help you and laugh with during the shoot but no boys allowed!   Tara kicked the hubby out for the day and since we shot at her home, she was relaxed and at ease.  Tara’s looks easily transitioned from vintage 40s to the retro 50s.

Take a look at a few of Tara’s pics and to see the rest, head over to www.suzieqpinups.com then contact me to set your shoot up~S

Me & Myself Portraits | Suzie Bell Photography

October 28th, 2011

Being a photographer is a passion for me.  Being in front of the camera is not.  I hate it.  I am not comfortable in front of the lens therefore, I know my clients pain and try to relax them as much as possible.  That said, I do think it is important to have photos of yourself especially after losing my sister and being thankful I had photos to remember her by and photos of her laughing and being silly. Those are priceless to me.  That is why I made a New Year’s resolution in 2011 to get in front of the lens more.  It’s more for my family.  I did a project where I had to take a self portrait everyday for 7 days.  It’s harder than you think and you run out of ideas and get kinda crazy at the end.  Without further adieu, here is my self portraits.  Some of these are taken with my iPhone, can you tell which ones?

Get Your Sexy Back|Suzie Q Pin-ups

October 24th, 2011

Suzie Q Pin-Ups

I am so excited to announce a new venture in Suzie Bell Photography.  Suzie Q Pin-Ups is helping every woman find their inner bombshell.

Day after day moms give so much of themselves and do so much for their children, their husbands and their jobs that they tend to forget about themselves.

Women need to remind themselves who they are and I am here to help them “get their sexy back.”

Sexiness isn’t something that you can just turn off.  You have to light the spark and fan the flames.  The confidence and sensuality of a pin-up photo shoot carries with you long afterwards and makes you remember that damn, I am hot!

A Suzie Q Pin-Up photo shoot isn’t about whether you are a size 0 or look like a Victoria’s secret model (men prefer curves anyway.)  It’s about you, it’s your turn.
